Welcome from Rosemaler Teresa
I am an artist and teacher specializing in the Telemark style of Rosemaling, using oils as my medium. Inspired by the old Norwegian master painters and the love of my Scandinavian heritage, my work over the years has been a blend of instruction at Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum, private study in Norway, and professional practice. My dedication as a rosemaling artist has enabled me to help preserve the integrity of this highly stylized nordic art form. View examples of my custom paintings in my Gallery >
I am available to develop unique decoration on any surface, from borders, doors, cabinets, and furniture to woodenware or canvas - in your home or business. My folk art can give your everyday objects new life. I welcome commissioned rosemaling opportunities in private homes and places of business, custom orders, large or small, and can also paint on your special item for a Nordic look - your wood or mine. I welcome travel opportunities for custom painting.
I specialize in painting custom trunks. The trunks can commemorate weddings, anniversaries, or makes a unique gift for you or someone you love. Using your colors of choice and lettering names/dates outside or inside the trunk, I can create a family heirloom. I welcome your ideas to create a special birthday, Christmas or anniversary gift for family or friends. I have rosemaled urns for loved ones. The rites of passage in a custom painted urn is an option for families to consider.
I am also available for instructing rosemaling workshops from beginners to intermediate levels and welcome students of all ages. My goal as an instructor is to give individual instruction to each student at their level of painting.
I have studied with and am grateful for the following Master Painters: Linda Englun, Sallie DeReus, Addie Pittlekow, Kari Signe Brathen, Ida Bjorgli, Kari Petterson, Jean Giese, Bjorg Kleivi, Randi Lian, Einar Syrstad, Sigmund Aarseth and Turid Fatland.
In 2014 I was awarded the Gold Medal in Rosemaling by the Norwegian American Museum (Vesterheim) representing the highest award available for Rosemaling in the United States today.
Fellowships: 2000 Minnesota Folk Art Grant Recipient, 2002 Grant from the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council (through an appropriation from the Minnesota State Legislature and The McKnight Foundation), 2004 Minnesota State Arts Board Artist Board Initiative Grant (through an appropriation by the Minnesota State Legislature and by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts), 2008 Career Development Grant (Rauland Folk Art Academy, Telemark Norway).
